It's piece of cake to create a bCourses assignment, where students submit a video directly to the teacher or share with the class. Examples of assignments using student video include class introductions, (private or group) student presentations, interview assignments or role-playing.

Choice 1: Creating a bCourses Assignment (Submitted media goes to instructor just)

Using the Canvas Assignment tool, yous set up the assignment as y'all would whatever other assignment simply making sure to set the Submission Blazon to Text Entry. Even though Media Recording and File Upload seem like more obvious options, using Text Entry (see image below), allows students to use Kaltura to submit their video which volition create a better feel for you lot when you are grading them.

Quiz Submission Type options with Text Entry selected

You'll want to provide instructions such as these in the Assignment Details field:

Annotation: For graded or high stakes assignments, you lot should crave that students utilize "Kaltura Video Submission" (rather than "Embed Kaltura Media") when submitting media, equally this creates a non-editable copy of the file at the fourth dimension of submission.

For assignments where students will be sharing media with each other, y'all might direct students to submit files to the Media Gallery or employ bCourses Discussions.

For more information about creating Assignments, please encounter vendor documentation for Assignments.

Pick 2: Media Gallery Submission (Video shared with peers)

Prerequisite: Media Gallery is visible in your course navigation. If information technology is not, see How practice I add together My Media or Media Gallery to my bCourses site?

To use Kaltura Media Gallery, create an assignment in the Assignment tool with the submission type of "No submission" and provide instructions for students to submit their video by sharing information technology with the course Kaltura Media Gallery.

The instructions should include the specific naming convention y'all would like students to use for their video (i.due east. their name, the assignment proper noun, etc.) and anything that you would like them to add to the video description (i.eastward. anything that you lot would unremarkably accept them add in a discussion mail).

In Media Gallery, both content moderation and commenting is enabled by default. If you lot do non want to manually approve every video added to the Media Gallery, you lot will want to disable the moderation setting. Run across How do I permit/disallow students (or site members) to contribute to a bCourses Media Gallery?. If y'all do non want students to exist able to comment on each others videos, encounter How do I enable or disable student (or site fellow member) comments on a video in a bCourses Media Gallery?

Option 3: Using bCourses Discussions (Media shared with Peers)

To utilize the Give-and-take tool, you lot can create the assignment just as you would for whatever discussion. (You tin set the Discussion to be a Graded word if desired. See Canvas Guide: How practice I create a Discussion every bit an instructor?

Ask students to embed video following the instructions in either How do I embed Kaltura media in bCourses using the Rich Content Editor? or How do I submit a Kaltura video assignment in bCourses using the Rich Content Editor? (Utilize the latter if you don't want students to be able to edit the video after adding information technology to the Discussion.)

Please note that this option does non work with Group Discussions; if you gear up a Word equally a "Grouping Discussion," when students endeavor to embed Kaltura media they will see an "Access Denied" message.

Choice 4: Using bCourses Quiz (timed video submission)

Using the Canvas Quiz tool, you can set a bCourses quiz in which students record video and submit it inside a given time menstruum. Please see How do I create quizzes in bCourses? for more detailed instructions on creating a bCourses quiz. You will want to set a Time Limit; to larn about this selection see What options can I set in a quiz?

You'll include an essay question on the quiz so students are presented with the Rich Content Editor, which is what they'll use to tape and submit media.
